Takamura SG2 Migaki 210mm Gyuto with Red Western Handle

Terukazu Takamura, a renowned name in blacksmithing, crafts exceptional knives at Takamura Hamono in Echizen. Each Takamura knife, regardless of price, stands out for its beauty and performance. Their quality is acknowledged by top chefs like René Redzepi of Noma and Massimo Bottura of Osteria Francescana.

Clarifying a common confusion, Takamura R2 and SG2 steel are the same, both being high-speed powdered steel (HSPS) used in kitchen knives for over 60 years. Takamura Hamono's expertise in heat treating SG2 steel results in some of the finest stainless steel kitchen knives available.

With a Rockwell hardness of around 63 and a sleek brushed migaki finish, Takamura SG2 knives offer incredible value and performance. The renowned laser grind of Takamura knives ensures smooth cutting through various foods. The 210mm gyuto is highly popular among both home cooks and professional chefs for its versatility and ideal length, fitting perfectly in any kitchen scenario.

Almost Perfect(Updated)

Original(4 Stars): Everything about the knife is perfect except the tip of the knife is slightly bent, which I assume is due to the fact that it penetrated the plastic tip cover.

Update: Changed to 5 stars because of the superb CS. Tony reached out within minutes and offered to either fix it for free or provide compensation if I'd already fixed it. Didn't feel right to not give 5 stars after that.

Crazy sharp out of the box

I’m happy with it as I knew what I was getting into. The blade is razor sharp out of the box, but that does come with a few draw backs. The blade is more delicate so try not to cut anything too hard like seeds or bone and it’s not the most comfortable to hold if you use a pinch grip.

This is a great knife

Great knife. I do like Wa handles, and most of my knives are, but this knife is just so practical in the kitchen and feels great in hand and has great steel. Excellent sharpness right out of the box. excellent thin grind to zero with the perfect microbevel sharpness. And Zach is always helpful before and after purchasing from Tokushu.
