Welcome to Masakage: A Home for Master Blacksmiths

Think of Masakage as a home for a lot of talented blacksmiths, collectively acting under one roof and name. Started in Echizen by Takayuki Shibata, a famed Japanese knife sharpener, Masakage now showcases an assortment of lines that are as unique as the blacksmiths who forge them. This collective is an aggregation of talent, ensuring that no matter which knife you buy, you are guaranteed a quality Echizen product.

The Koishi line of Masakage, one of its most popular, is forged by Yoshimi Kato. All knives in this line feature a core of Blue Super Steel (Aogami Super), enveloped in stainless cladding with a hammered (tsuchime) pattern and an attractive matte kurouchi finish. This combination yields a high-performance core steel with a high contrast hammer kurouchi finish, making any knife from this line a true stunner.

The santoku, translating to "knife of three virtues" (slice, dice, chop), exemplifies some styles that don't need reinvention. Suitable for almost anyone, the santoku is a highly versatile, multi-purpose knife. Those who prefer to rock chop or have limited space in the kitchen will find this style particularly enjoyable.

Beautiful Knife with a Personal Touch

I purchased this blade to add to my Masakage Koishi collection. But this one is special, as I added a maple burl handle, making this knife stand out from the other wonderful Masakage knives I have!
