Hasegawa Pro-Soft Cutting Board (FSR Series)
The Hasegawa Pro-Soft Cutting Board (FSR Series) pairs a soft elastomer cutting surface with a rigid wood core. It is designed to cushion the fine edges of Japanese kitchen knives while remaining lighter and more rigid than a comparably sized solid synthetic board.
FSR construction
The FSR uses a sealed composite construction rather than solid rubber or solid plastic.
- Core: A rigid wood core supports the board, helps it remain flat, and reduces weight.
- Surface: A soft elastomer shell cushions the knife edge and provides a controlled cutting feel.
FSR vs. FPEL
Choose the surface that best matches your preferred cutting feel and workflow.
| Feature | FSR Series (Beige) | FPEL Series (Black) |
|---|---|---|
| Surface material | Soft elastomer | Soft polyethylene (PE) |
| Cutting feel | Softer and more cushioned | Firmer and smoother |

Features and care
- Knife-friendly surface: The soft elastomer cushions contact with fine kitchen-knife edges.
- Wood-core construction: The sealed core adds rigidity while keeping the board manageable to lift and wash.
- Heat resistance: The manufacturer rates the board for temperatures up to 90°C (194°F).
- Dishwasher care: The board is dishwasher safe when kept away from direct heating elements.
- Cleaning: Follow the manufacturer's cleaning guidance. Do not leave the board exposed to concentrated chemicals longer than directed.
- Resurfacing: The soft surface will develop cut marks over time. Use the Hasegawa Board Scraper periodically to clean and smooth the surface.
Avoid heavy bone chopping and repeated use with serrated knives, which can damage the soft cutting surface.
