Not all blacksmiths dreamt of being a blacksmith. Hokkaido born Kyohei Shindo however, dreamt of being a blacksmith from a young age and accomplished just that by opening up his own shop in Tosa city, in Kōchi prefecture by age 32.

His knives are characterized by having a tapering spine yet incredibly thin cutting edge, and a Tosa lacquered kurouchi finish. For the price, the out of box edge and performance of a knife like this is seldom beat.

The Nakiri is one of Shindo-san's most sought after blades. It is tall, has a hammered in mild S grind for food release, and one of the thinnest grind available. This knife is not for the beginner. Its delicate edge will pass through food like it doesn't exist. With proper care, this knife will serve you very well.

Very nice

I am really pleased with this knife, I wasn't 100% sure what to expect as this was my first nakiri, but wow is it fun to cut with! Very nimble, and I was also pleasantly surprised with how sharp it arrived right out of the box, I don't feel the need to take it to my stones at all yet. As others have said, customer service is also great, I had the stock handle this knife comes with replaced with another handle at no additional fee which was very nice!

Where you buy matters.

Mine unfortunately came with an S-warp and some unpolished edge spots. There are vendors that would’ve said you get what you pay for.. but Tokushu went above and beyond to make it right.

3 stars for my knife, 6 stars for service. Would not hesitate to buy again.

High quality for a low price

I was skeptical about this blade before purchasing. Thinking under $100 for a nakiri, my expectation was low.
I was quite surprised to find an extremely well made blade, very thin, plus the sharpness from the jump was incredible.

SHARP!!!!!!

This knife was amazing light and sharp. If these are available get one. Shindo-san makes the thinnest knives I own and i'd get more but they sell out too quick.
