It's a Yoshikane. That is enough!

As a person newly introduced the world of Japanese Knives , I read enough to start with a Takamura and then very quickly found Yoshikane. The big brands like Miyabi and Shun get the mass appeal attention but the traditional approach of the Yoshikane caught my attention after reading gushing review after gushing review. I started with the Nakiri and then this Kiritsuke. First off, Yoshikane is not an ostentatious brand. They don't put bling handles on their knives and opt for woods like Ebony, Bubinga and in the case of this knife the burnt chestnut. I love the way the Yoshikane Knives feel in the hand with the Octagonal Wa handle. As for the blade, They make their spines a little thicker which really balances the weight when cutting. As a novice, I've opted for the SKD versions since they are slightly easier to care for then their White #2 steel counterparts. They retain their edge quite well. This knife for me is the perfect length. Not too unwieldy and cuts like a laser. These knives are truly a work of art and you can tell that they are created with soul and love for their craft. This knife is perfect for slicing larger cuts of meat- brisket etc. Be sure to get yourself a very soft cutting board for these knives to retain their edge. Hinoki, Larchwood or the Synthetic rubber cutting boards (Hasegawa etc) are some great choices. Last but not least, Tony from Tokushu knives is super responsive and super customer friendly. I will definitely be shopping here again. Tony, if you are reading- I'm looking for a Yoshikane SKD Petty! LOL

Great knife

This knife has great geometry, excellent fit and finish, and is wicked sharp right out of box. Nothing less would be expected because it is a Yoshikane. It meets and beats my expectations. I highly recommend this knife.

Firsttime high end knife

Spent alot of time researching a knife of this caliber, and have yet to use it. My initial thoughts are on aesthetics and feel only, which I must say are highly impressed. I chose the shattered carbon handle which feels wonderful in the hand. The blade however looks fantastic. Bought this as a present for a chef, I will update with any further input from him
