The Origin Story of Tokushu Knife

About Tokushu Knife and Its Founder, Tony Maciejewski

My name is Tony Maciejewski, and I am the proud founder and owner of Tokushu Knife. I am also a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. You’re probably wondering how those two worlds collided. We’ll get there, but first, let’s talk about Tokushu.

What is Tokushu Knife?

Tokushu Knife is not your typical Amazon kitchen knife store solution. We offer expertise and an experience that only real people can provide, not a content management system. We are an online retailer specializing in the sale of high-end Japanese kitchen knives and other hand-forged cutlery and tools such as whetstones, handmade custom handles, strops, and more.

Our Mission

Our biggest focus is delivering exceptional customer service and providing affordable knife maintenance. We believe in spreading positive energy and karma. We aim to humanize the process of choosing and maintaining your kitchen knife, and we strive to connect with our customers on a personal level.

Our Offerings

Our offerings are the real deal! For example, we work with a Japanese brand of knives that has over 700 years of blacksmithing experience and channels that history into phenomenal kitchen knives. The Moritaka Family, now on their 30th generation of smiths, produces works of functional art that words cannot express.

How Did We Get Here?

I followed a traditional path: go to school, get a degree, and then find a career. I have a successful career working as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist at a hospital. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, I found myself in a dark hole. In that dark hole, I found myself sharpening knives as a way of meditation during stressful times. This led me to reinvent myself and start a business.

The Journey of Building Tokushu Knife

Starting a business meant having to work 16-hour days even outside of a normal work week. But eventually, that hard work paid off. The trust our customers had in my small online shop meant I could hire Zach Peters, a sharpening wizard, to delegate some of the work to him so that I could grow a different side of the business. Adding him to Tokushu was an excellent business decision on so many levels.

Conclusion

We are proud to offer Zach's sharpening services at a very affordable price on any knife you ever buy from Tokushu or you already own. I am Tony Maciejewski, the founder and owner of Tokushu Knife, and this is our story.
