Overview
If kitchen knives had a boy-band, Shibata Takayuki would be on lead vocals—bringing “sharp knives back,” just like an NSYNC reunion tour. Hand-sharpened in Hiroshima, the Koutetsu SG2 Migaki 150 mm Petty is a laser-thin, stainless-clad kiritsuke-tip (k-tip) utility that slices bread, tomatoes, or campsite chorizo with equal swagger. Its powder-metallurgy SG2 core holds a screamin’ edge yet shrugs off rust, so you spend more time cooking and less time baby-sitting your blade. At an agile 49 g, this petty is light enough for backpacking yet long enough to be the ultimate sandwich-making sidekick.
Common Questions
Q: Is SG2 really stainless enough for camping?
A: Yes! SG2 is a high-chromium powder steel—wipe it down and it resists rust far better than reactive carbon blades.
Q: Can a 150 mm petty replace my paring and small chef knives?
A: For many cooks, absolutely. It’s nimble for in-hand fruit work, yet long enough to portion proteins or slice baguettes.
Q: How should I sharpen it?
A: Use a fine water stone (3 k–6 k grit). Skip honing steels; a few light passes on the stone keeps that laser edge screaming.
