Sakai Takayuki "Hein" by Itsuo Doi Blue #2 Mirror Polished 300mm Kengata Yanagiba with Ebony Handle and Saya
Sakai Takayuki is one of the most respected names in Japanese knife craftsmanship, renowned as the largest knife maker in the Sakai region. Known for their dedication to quality and tradition, each Sakai Takayuki knife reflects 600 years of meticulous handcrafting expertise.
This "Hein" line knife is a masterpiece forged by Master Itsuo Doi, son of the legendary blacksmith Keijiro Doi. Crafted from Aogami #2 (Blue Steel) and finished with a breathtaking mirror polish, this knife is an elegant blend of functionality and artistry. The addition of a luxurious ebony handle and saya completes the sophisticated look of this stunning blade.
Note that the mirror-finished cladding is reactive, so thorough wiping and care are essential for maintaining its quality.
This particular yanagiba is unique not only for its impressive 300mm single bevel but also for its Kengata (k-tip) design. Unlike typical yanagibas, the Kengata yanagiba features a curved tip that extends from the blade's belly, adding precision and versatility to its cutting capabilities. Even the choil is subtly angled to reflect the k-tip, enhancing the dynamic flow of the knife’s design.
