Leather Strops
Leather Strops
If you have a Japanese knife, and do not have a leather strop, buy one now! It is one of the most important maintenance tools to maintain your knives. We recommend using them in conjunction with our Tokushu Knife Strop Shots a premium polycrystalline abrasive that will restore a razor sharp edge in a few passes.
Why a leather strop?
A leather strop is preferred by our professional sharpeners and customers because they are safe, portable, and remarkably effective. We say "safe" meaning that its gentle on your hard Japanese Knife. Using a sharpening rod brings with it a small chance of chipping your knife. Properly using a strop doesn't carry the same risk. The Tokushu Knife Small Paddle Strop fits nicely in a knife roll and can maintain your knives anywhere you go. When we say "effective" we are referring to the ability to restore an edge to razor sharpness. With as little as three passes on each side!
For use with Japanese Pocket Knives
Leather Strops are also popular with Japanese pocket knife enthusiasts. In fact, with a proper progression with our diamond compounds, you can achieve a mirror finish on the cutting edge of your pocket knife. We recommend progressing from 2 micron to 1 micron, then 0.5 micron to 0.25 micron for best results.
